2016: Day 29

A tragic lesson in letting go of my obsessive need to follow directions exactly. 

Despite realizing (a little too late) that the instructions for these truffle-parmesan fries called for an excessive amount of salt, and despite trying to wipe most of the salt off of the potatoes before cooking, the saltiness was kind of unbearable. 

Sad day. Lesson learned. 

At least they looked pretty. :)

Today was a day for grocery shopping. I bought blueberries. I really love blueberries. :)

She ripped a hole in the shower liner and now she watches me through it. 

No one warned me about this part of being a cat mom.

I have wanted to own an original copy of a lesbian pulp novel for quite a while. 

Sadly this one was too expensive for me. 

2016: Day 22

Tonight I went to my very first hockey game. I had a really great time, and we won! :)

2016: Day 21

We started my library buildings class with a tour of the Mathematics library. It was built in the 1890s and had opaque glass floors, and gaps where you could see to the stacks above and below. It was very cool. :)

2016: Day 20

This morning I missed my shuttle and had to frantically scoop the fresh snowfall off of my car before driving to class. But tonight, when rushing off to work, my car was the only one around not covered in a thick layer of ice. Sometimes things work out just right. :)

I never thought I would have to buy another one of these after leaving the theatre department. And yet...

But also hooray for my library buildings class! :)

The semester begins tomorrow. Robin was extra affectionate today. She is going to miss having me around so much, I think.

In which I buy myself a new phone. And it isn't even my birthday.

It seems to be a strange universal truth that if a cat is ever near a box they will climb inside of it to hide. Even if the box is actually a drawer full of your things, and you only opened it for a moment.

I found someone's charm in a puddle today. This is the first time in five years that Jeremiah Smith is not in my January 15th photo.

A few months ago I bought myself workout clothes as an encouragement to exercise. So far my biggest accomplishment has been NOT wearing them as pajamas.

Today I made lemon and herb potatoes. It took like two hours, but they were really good and I am proud. :D

It is very cold in Champaign Urbana. We didn't get snow, but the ice is creeping up everywhere.

Today a surprise present from my mom was delivered. A sloth pillowcase! Now I can sleep nestled in the lap of a majestic creature. :D

I got a tiny lemon poppyseed cake at my workplace today in celebration of the new year. A very thoughtful gift. :)

A public service announcement: Today I saw this overpriced pre-queso queso in the grocery store. The secret they won't tell you, friends, is that restaurant style queso is just American cheese. I checked the back of this package, it was American cheese. DON'T BE SWINDLED!

He leaves me tomorrow, but today we watched the new Star Wars movie and I taught him how to make tamales.
